It’s important to remember that when you are first trying to shift behavior, when you’re first making a big change, it takes major disruption. It takes major effort to make those shifts.

Adam Moore

When searching for a solution to overcome pornography, try looking at the big picture and expect the process to take time. This week Creed and Crishelle explored this idea with Dr. Adam Moore as they discussed how approaching recovery from both the perspective of a symptom and a problem can offer the boost for lasting change.

In this episode:

  • Recovery is complicated and there is not a one-size-fits-all solution.
  • Anything that matters is worth putting effort into.
  • Oversimplifying addiction recovery is detrimental to those experiencing it.
  • Getting feedback from a therapist or family member can give you better insight on your progress.

Dr. Adam M. Moore is a licensed marriage and family therapist and co-owner of Sela Health, which operates mental health counseling offices in Utah and Nevada. Sela Health employees have provided over 60,000 hours of counseling since the company’s inception in 2013. In addition to managing his counseling practice, Dr. Moore hosts a mental health podcast called Pocket Therapist. He also manages My Recovery Portal, a website that has provided on-demand addiction recovery content to people all over the world. Dr. Moore regularly engages in public speaking events on the topic of pornography and sexual addiction recovery, and has presented workshops to over 18,000 people since 2013. Dr. Moore is formerly Assistant Director of Brigham Young University’s comprehensive clinic and President of the Utah Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
